Carl Heidenreich Foundation Receives Transformative Gift from Patricia Recendez

The Carl Heidenreich Foundation is thrilled to share that in January 2026 we received a major gift of over 1,800 works of art by Carl Heidenreich from Patricia Recendez. The major donation of art includes watercolors and gouaches, oil paintings, and mixed media works on paper. Recendez has been the primary steward of Heidenreich’s estate since the passing of her husband Emanuel Wolf in 2022.

Wolf was a businessman and film producer, as well as an enthusiastic and steadfast collector. As a dedicated supporter of Carl Heidenreich’s career, Wolf began collecting many of the artist’s paintings beginning in the 1960s and, upon Heidenreich’s death in 1965, purchased the artist’s estate in its entirety. After moving away from New York, he lived with Recendez in Carlsbad, California, for many years. Recendez has served on the board of the Carl Heidenreich Foundation for the past decade.

This momentous gift enables the Foundation’s further promotion of the artist’s legacy through exhibitions, collection acquisitions, academic and art historical study, and museum donations, expanding on our mission to preserve the work of the German American exile artist and broaden its critical and historical recognition.

We extend our thanks to Patti for her profound generosity and her trust in transferring the estate to the Foundation.
